PrestaShop Monthly, back-to-school 2026
As la rentrée sets the tone for Q4 strategy across ecommerce, this period marks a major operational milestone for PrestaShop.
This month: PrestaShop 9.2 reaches general availability, leadership lays out its strategy, and the PS Summit program is out.
Refounding PrestaShop
In early September, CEO Mikołaj Król published an open letter on his first six months leading PrestaShop. It confirms the completion of an organizational restructuring and explains how the company intends to fund the platform over the long term.
Strategic priorities outlined:
- Ecosystem alignment: Putting PrestaShop back at the center of its community, so agencies, developers, merchants, and partners move in the same direction.
- Sustainable open source: The PrestaShop team accounts for 61% of all historical code contributions, and 72% in 2025. Keeping the company financially healthy is a direct contribution to the open-source platform.
- Ecosystem value reinvestment: Revenue from official solutions goes back into the product. Official PSPs generate about 60% of it, and PrestaShop Marketplace purchases about a third.
- How to contribute: Choose official PSPs and partner integrations, buy through the official PrestaShop Marketplace, enable CloudSync so product decisions rest on real usage data and affiliate revenue can be attributed, and keep contributing to the core.

PrestaShop 9.2 is available
After the beta this summer, PrestaShop 9.2 is now available. Designed to increase front-office conversion and streamline back-office management, this release delivers native checkout optimization, built-in AI capabilities, and extensible entity management.
Core updates in 9.2:
- Native One-Page Checkout: A One-Page Checkout module now ships in the release bundle, bringing the entire checkout onto a single page with a guest-first flow. Merchants can switch between one-page and four-page checkout from the back office.
- Ask AI assistant: A conversational back-office assistant powered by the PrestaShop MCP Server and included in the Classic edition. Merchants can ask questions about their store data and trigger actions in plain language, with the AI provider of their choice and their own API key. Ask AI requests approval before acting on the store.
- Extra Properties: A native, standardized way to attach custom fields to core entities such as products, combinations, customers, and orders. Merchants manage fields from Advanced Parameters > Extra Properties. Developers get a single reusable extension point instead of rebuilding persistence logic in every module. Co-developed with Kiwik.
- PrestaShop Automation with Klaviyo: Included in the Classic edition for automated email and SMS campaigns, audience segmentation, and lifecycle marketing.
- Architecture and theme: Another batch of back-office pages has moved to Symfony: Countries, Merchandise Returns, Hook a module, Quick Access, Email body translations, and Tax rules. They are available behind feature flags for testing before they become the default. A new core image fitment setting (Fit, Crop, Bound) controls how thumbnails handle product image aspect ratios. The release ships with Hummingbird 2.1.2, which uses fitment for brand logos on product pages.
- Upgrade path: Stores on 9.0.x or 9.1.x can update with Update Assistant 7.6.6. Beta and RC installs require a fresh installation.
