Try and look for some cart_qty conditions inside of ajax-cart.js. Maybe it works only, when there are products inside of teh cart.

Hi jamiedickinson, unfortunately I don't know of a module or a simple customization that would enable you to do that. Quite the contrary - imho it would requiere quite some work to get this done. Try going into job offers here on forum and create a thread there, I highly doubt that anyone would be willing to do this for free.
