one subcategory in more category
stottycabanas replied to Fanto's topic in Configuring and using PrestaShop
Fanto, Paul is quite right, you can set up multiple subcategories with the same name. However, you can't have a single subcategory with more than one parent category. Cheers, Dave -
SEARCH - problem with sign "-" minus
stottycabanas replied to IgorSB's topic in Ecommerce x PrestaShop [ARCHIVE BOARD]
You might actually be making it more difficult for your customers if you force them to include the hyphen in their search. They might know they have an FX-10, but may not remember there is a hyphen or realise they have to include it. It might be frustrating for them to try FX10 then FX 10 and get no matches - and it could in theory lose you sales too. Cheers, Dave -
Categories are moved out of home category
stottycabanas replied to foxygardner's topic in OUT - 1.6.0.11 [7 Jan 2015]
The thread I linked to above suggested adding a new category which ought to regenerate the category structure. It didn't work for at least one person, but would be worth a try. Cheers, Dave -
You're welcome, Draygon. I guess there might need to be two modules, depending on whether you're interfacing to a carrier to pull back their charges or having Prestashop calculate the shipping charges itself. Good luck with the search! Cheers, Dave

Why so difficult to import categories/products?
stottycabanas replied to kevin13952's topic in OUT - 1.6.0.11 [7 Jan 2015]
On behalf of the Prestashop community, may I apologise for us being so SLOW to respond to your post, but just because you like to SHOUT a lot, it doesn't mean we'll respond more QUICKLY. As it happens, I agree with your point that the c in csv should mean comma, but time is a valuable commodity, so I just use semi-colon and get on with it. Cheers, Dave -
OK, that's a new feature in 1.6 which I hadn't noticed before. If you have a blank screen, turn error reporting on by editing /config/defines.inc.php, changing _PS_MODE_DEV_ from false to true. Try exporting again and you'll get a more detailed error message which you can post here. Cheers, Dave

I think the issue was understood from your first post. In the case of your products (which being liquid will be pretty heavy), have you actually established whether having the dimensions at combination level would in fact make any difference to the shipping charge calculated by UPS? If not, you'd be OK as the actual weight would always be used, not the volumetric weight. If it did make a difference, I think you'd have to go down the route of separate products. I think your general point about dimension impact not being available at combination level is valid and has been raised in the forums before. It's the same problem if you use Royal Mail in the UK. Prestashop may well counter that they don't use dimensions in their own shipping calculations, but I wouldn't have thought it was a huge change to capture the data and pass the correct dimensions to the carrier modules, as they do with weight. Cheers, Dave

Hi BWarner, welcome to the forums. You're using the phrase 'export the theme' quite a lot. I'm not clear what you mean by that. Especially when you say 'export (read: customise)' - the two words are unrelated. If you just want to customise or edit your theme, there's nothing preventing you from doing that. If you want to edit the default theme, make a copy of it first, then edit the copy - easier for upgrading. Cheers, Dave

The search in prestashop takes the search terms you enter and tries to match with whole words or words that begin with the search term. In your example, it will find no words beginning with 2612. Cheers, Dave

Top horizontal menu - modify parent/child items
stottycabanas replied to D-bird's topic in Configuring and using PrestaShop
Maybe you could do some mods like vekia suggested in this thread to hard code links to product categories from a CMS category menu: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/286948-solved-top-horizontal-menu-create-submenu-links This was for 1.5 though rather than 1.6, so I'm not sure if it can work. Cheers, Dave -
Flagging a product as "new" is wrong
stottycabanas replied to pat123's topic in Configuring and using PrestaShop
Well, using your logic, you could add a new product, then 5 minutes later change the 'new' parameter and the product you added a few minutes before immediately becomes 'old'. I think I'll stick with Prestashop's interpretation! Cheers, Dave -

patriek, I don't think there's anything wrong, it's just the way it's designed to work. It seems a reasonable approach. Cheers, Dave
