Custom translations are overwritten when installing updates

Hi,

I'm using Prestashop v1.7.6 and have a single language enabled (en-GB). Some of the default language translations are not quite right (grammatically incorrect or use phrases that a native speaker wouldn't commonly use), so I decided to modify them. I found the back office interface a little cumbersome for making mass changes, so I edited the translation files in app/Resources/translations/en-GB directly. After clearing the cache everything was great. Unfortunately however, whenever I install a Prestashop or addon update, all of the translation files are overwritten with the original defaults and I lose my changes. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Perhaps I need to copy my changes to a new directory and create a new language type?
