after failed upgrade to 1.4, rollback to 1.3.7 OK, but can't access shop - get 403 Forbidden error

Recommended Posts

I have restored 1.3.7 again from my backup files and database backup after trying to upgrade, but failing. Restore has nearly succeeded: back office works fine, database looks good, but if I try to access my shop, I just get a 403 Forbidden error: You don't have permission to access /webshoppen/ on this server.

There must be one little file, or setting, I'm still missing to correct.

Anyone know what that might be?

"So close, but no cigar."

OK. I found out what the issue was. In my backup of the webshop files, I'd had problems with the ftp copy/download and discovered that I was missing some essential files in the root. So once I copied them over, I was back in business!

So it is possible to make a successful roll-back after a failed upgrade attempt.

PS v 1.3.7 is again running as before. Will have to try the 1.4 upgrade again now that I know more.

How did you rollback to 1.3? I'm going crazy here. I installed 1.4 but everything failed. Now I copied entire store back but the graphic is poor and I can't figure out what I must do to get the store back to previous state?

I deleted all 1.4 files from the web server, then I used ftp to upload all of my 1.3.7 files from the local hard disk (where I had saved them).
Using PHPadmin I dropped (deleted) all files from the database. Then I did an import of the db backup (also stored on my local hard drive).
Now the server has the original 1.3.7 database as I last used it re-installed, and the web server has all the 1.3.7 shop files restored.
My problem was that my backup copy of the 1.3.7 files had not included all the files (I missed some of them in the root directory), so my installation first worked again when I copied these files over from the original 1.3.7 file I downloaded from Prestashop.
That's what I did.
You mention that the graphic is poor, what exactly do you mean? Are images not being shown? Are they shown in a bad resolution?
You need to be sure that everything from 1.4 is gone again, otherwise you may get a mix of 1.4 and 1.3.7 files, which would confuse the picture considerably.
Good luck.

Thanks for reply. I send linkt to my site. Its not like the graphic failed, ist more like mess. Everything seem misplaced. Perhaps its theme issue. I did however delete everything and uploaded DB again but I don't know what caused this. My site is here

Did you managed to upgrade your store eventually? New version seems to have many useful gadgets so it would be great if someone finally would figure out a way to upgrade without so many problems.

It was not the theme afterall. Now I will try to make another database and make clean install with presta tutorial for upgrade to see if it works. Perhaps then I can get my site up and running properly again.

  • 1 year later...

jonh same problem here but with diffrent versions.. i wanted to go from 1.4.7 to 1.4.8 because of some bugs i got tired of.. whole upgrade went bad and now my whole site is bust.. i have indeed everything backed up, but my question is: should i delete everything from de webserver, then upload the backupp? (or should i just upload and replace?) Same question for database: remove first and then upload or somehow upload and replace? And my final question..When you first instal prestashop you have to follow that instal thing in your browser.. Is that not necessary when you upload everything? When you do the ftp and database, will everything just know how to work together and indeed work?

I REALLY REALLY NEED HELP!!
