Importing Categories and Product Files, via the inbuilt import feature mystery solved

Recommended Posts

Ok I have been looking at this for approx two weeks now, and have come to the conclusion, there is a lot of confusion out there in the forums, when it comes to using the inbuilt import feature, use excel, don't use excel etc....yada yada, other threads giving you some sort of guidance but never quite hitting the mark, and the most frustrating is the amount of peeps wanting payment for assisting you, thought this was "free" open source, and the community helps each other out, idealistic world Oh well

Ok then semi rant over -

Categories - See Attached

The key to all of this is using the "Parent category" Column D, it is relational to the "ID" Column A

First Example BareBones

Main Cat "BareBones" Sub Cat "Asus"

Second Example goes down to three levels

Main Cat "Flash" 1st Sub Cat "Flash Drives" 2nd Sub Cat "Patriot & Peak"

Product File

Ok, it's all explained in the attached file, but what I would really like to point out is this in the import file is column "Image URLs (x,y,z...)" Column AD, After reading several threads saying you have to put 'www.DomainName.co.uk/upload/img.jpg', nah don't work, all you need is '../upload/img.jpg' minus the quotes, make sure you have the correct number of leading dots (2). People were over complicating it presta just need to look inside its self

On the above regarding products you must of first of all uploaded your images to the upload directory, within the attached "PrestaImportBuild_Update Example", there are four examples for you to look at with different scenarios

Hope this helps
