Help 1.6 and 1.7

Hi guys I need some help

I migrated our multishop to 1.7 to find it impossible to work with, the language selector as the front end doesn't upload when you change the language, and is utterly slow for a multistore enviroment with 7 stores and 10 languages.

Now after long consideration I have to roll back to 1.6, I would like to export the configurable products in the 1.7 to the 1.6. most modules are to move forward not backwards.

Is there any way I can either make 1.7 faster, solve the language issue or import the 1.7 products into a 1.6
