link to database cannot be established

I have contacted my host (godaddy) and they say everything is fine i checked the config.php it is correct but i still get this error. i can refresh a few times then it works but after uploading 5 products it does it again. and my site itself takes over a min to load then it times out most times can anyone help i dont know if i have to redo everything or not but i cant use this the way it is

1) Godday is a horrible host, bad service, bad support, and they allocate very few resource, my advice is switch host.

2) If you choose to stay with them, the problem maybe related to overloading the server, need to know more information about your site.

What PS version are you using?
How many products, categories?
Any special changes made?

and now i cant even get in i have prob 30 categories and will have 1500 or so product on it

For a small- medium site, you can use bluehost (http://www.bluehost.com/track/tomer ) I have used them for over a year until I outgrew them and needed a VPS server.

For medium-large site, you can use inmotion (https://secure1.inmotionhosting.com/cgi-bin/gby/clickthru.cgi?id=tomerg3 ), I switched to them about 4 months ago, and have not had any downtime at all, their support is very good and fast.

If i db backup through dash board of admin site will i loose info on my site and have to start over?

You need a backup of the database, and a backup of the files.

Import the DB to the new server, and copy all the files.

Change the DB settings in /config/settings.inc.php and you should be ready to go.

Keep the old shop online until you verify that the migration went well.
