no longer able to log into the back office

1. Path is not the same between your browser and you server :

i seen posts where it shows how to hide it but i am not able to log in at all. i am using a godaddy linux hosting. i installed it in a folder from the main root. it was working fine before and now i cant get in. it will not allow me to log in to the admin section. the store seems to be working fine.

the site isnt live i been installing all my products until i learned about 1.4 and waited. now that i am going back ready to update to 1.4 its not working. i havent changed anything should i just try to install 1.4 and hope it fixes it? i would hate to lose all my products i set up already.
