BWT
RockyI am having trouble with updating and have a question or two if you would be kind enough to lend me a hand it would be awesome! I have version 1.3.1 installed and want to upgrade to 1.4.17 I have tried a few times with no luck. after i have backed everything up I downloadded new version then uploaded the new files and over write the old ones then I ran the installer via the browser and the update option was not able to click on? What am i doing wrong? I also tried another time and before i uploaded new files changed the admin folder name to the name that I changed the old one too. that had the same results?? I have read through the article you wrote and i see that after you backup database you go right to the installer part so, I am writting you now please help as i don't know what i am doing wrong? Thanks
rocky
Most likely, you forgot to copy config/settings.inc.php from your old site to your new site. Without that, you cannot upgrade.
tutygr
Can I restore my database after a clean upgrade? (v1.3.7 to v1.4) Because I'm having problems upgrading. I have thousands of products in my store. Will it work?Thank you.
rocky
Sure, as long as you've made a backup of your files and database before you did the upgrade, you can simply restore those.
tutygr
Thanks! Because I thought v1.4 changed some fields in the database and restoring to an old one could conflict.
rocky
It does change fields. You should drop your PrestaShop v1.4 tables before restoring the PrestaShop v1.3 tables.
BWT
so what your saying rocky is copy config setting file or add it to the newly upgrading files then run the browser? is that right? After I back up should i change admin folder name to match my old one then upload all file / folders to there respective places with the config/settings.ini.php file and it should work? Did i miss anything or is that correct?i tried that it says i must give public wrte permission to setting ini php file how do i do that?

A-Z Hosting
1.4.17 - NOT A STABLE, IT'S HAVE MANY PROBLEMS, .... I agree with this. Can't really be a stable until the upgrade errors are fixed. Seems there are some mysql errors on upgrade using mysql server 4.x, the shopping cart block just says x products with the price and won't expand, few issues here before it can be stable. Now I go to see if we have the same issues on a fresh install.Wil
BWT
hyperwhen i first upgraded to the new version i thought it had a lot of issues but after some time of working with it more then half of those issuse where things i did to cause the problem. However there are a few things but not anything to really moan about after you upgrade take some time and reall go through the new version learn about each new advancement in the version and continue from there. Good luck!
A-Z Hosting
Well I wish it was something I did cause then I could have fixed it easier. I did a full install and carried over the inserts of my product data. This store wasn't production yet so it was far easier than a user who would already be in production. After the full install none of the bugs showed up so I think it's safe to say it was all related to the Mysql 4.x issues that I posted here: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/101811/upgrading_prestashop/mysql_upgrade_errorsThe issue is simple and thats that the update queries they used aren't supported in Mysql 4.x and are in 5.x. Though they don't have the install process checking for the 5.x requirement. Or another option could be to use different update queries if 4.x is detected. Just some small adjustments for 1.4.0.18 which COULD easily be a stable release and a nice one. ;-) Note, I am VERY happy with the new additions and revisions. The locale changes, addition of Authnet, USPS, UPS and Fedex were much needed for US stores and open up great possibilities. Big fat thumbs up to the core team! rocky
This question was asked and answered in the first page of this thread! If the "Upgrade" option is disabled, then you forgot to copy config/settings.inc.php from the backup to the new install.
joshrhinbenj
Hi Rocky, I am doing an upgrade from 1311 to 1370 and is now on the 3rd Step which is system compatibility. Everything looks OK because the configuration is valid and say click next to continue. However, it is taking ages.... I mean 10 min already and still running. How long will it take to get finish? rocky
If something has gone wrong, then it may never complete. I suggest restoring a backup from before the upgrade, then trying again using Firefox. Keep Firebug open during the upgrade so you can see any errors that occur. If that doesn't work, try upgrading to PrestaShop v1.4. I think there were upgrade bugs that were fixed. nicksey
I have now had to completely removed v 1.4. Do not upgrade or try to use 1.4 it is full of bugs and incompatability problems, I have just lost 5 entire days of work due to this terrible 'upgrade'. Badly prepared, released before it is stable and a complete waste of time. Don't get me wrong I love Prestashop but I am now reverting to 1.3.7. If your business is important to you then stay away from 1.4 it WILL destroy your website, please be warned
stub
Is there an upgrade guide from 1.4 to 1.4.1?
stub
So 1.4.2 is now out but still no clear instructions how to upgrade from 1.4 to a newer version. If there is some instructions somewhere, please point me in the right direction. I'm considering junking PrestaShop because I cannot upgrade the 1.4 version without some instructions. PrestaSupport
The video guide that shows upgradeguide 1.3 to 1.4 will work I guess as the upgrade procedure is the same for all upgrades.
BWT
Yes the procedure is the same for upgrading like mentioned above if you have a shop installed already don't forget to copy and paste the old config/settings.ini.php file into the new version before upgrade. This file contains necessary information about your store set up.
MikeMc68
I have upgraded to the latest version and now I see NONE of my modules on the modules tab. Please help.
rocky
One of your modules mustn't be compatible with the version of PrestaShop you upgraded to. Edit config/config.inc.php and temporarily change 'display_errors' from 'off' to 'on'. That should give you a hint as to which module is incompatible. If it doesn't, you will have to delete your third-party modules off your server, then upload them one-by-one to figure out which is causing the problem. MikeMc68
OK I have done that and the error message is: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare non static CarrierModule::$limited_countries as static Dejala::$limited_countries in /htdocs/classes/Module.php(551) : eval()'d code on line
rocky
Looks like an issue with the Dejala module, which is weird, since it's a module that comes with PrestaShop. Did you overwrite classes/CarrierModule.php and modules/dejala directory with the latest versions when you upgraded?
neilp123
Hi Rocky, I've e-mailed Prestashop support, and posted elsewhere on the forum, and after zero response, I'm getting desperate! Basically, I updated from 1.2.5 to 1.4.4 because I was having some issues in the Back Office. Anyway, I installed the update in a folder /prestashop/ and the back office now seems to be working ok. However, the front office just re-directs to a 404 error page every time I try to load it. I'm really struggling now. I just want to get this site up and running, using the new installation without any bugs! My original thread can be found at http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/123890-upgrade-from-125-to-144/ Thank you for any help you can offer. indus
It does change fields. You should drop your PrestaShop v1.4 tables before restoring the PrestaShop v1.3 tables. I would like to know what exactly this means.
todaytonight
Hi rocky, Thank you very much for this topic and it is very useful. I got a big issue for upgrading. After I have completed upgrading my shop from v1.3.2 to latest version v1.4.8.2, I got an error "Invalid loadTaxZones() SQL query!" in both my current shop (v1.3.2, http://www.lovestation.com.au) and upgraded shop (v1.4.8.2, http://www.lovestation.com.au/prestashop/). I got the error stragaway in my current shop, but it is little bit better in the upgraded shop (it displays the home page, but as soon as you click any category or product, I got the same error. I have post the issue here: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/174945-error-occurred-after-upgrade-from-v132-to-v148/ and would you be able to help? Thank you so much!
