Recommended Posts

Everything is in the question...
I just installed Prestashop and naturally need to build it. But I wonder if it can be viewed by any user...
My shop is in a subfolder like : wwwdotmysitedotcom/prestashop
mysite.com needs to be live.
How do I have to proceed ?
I see no commnad vailable on my admin panel.
Thank you,

See, in BO:

Enable Shop:
Activate or deactivate your shop. Deactivate your shop while you perform maintenance on it
Maintenance IP:
IP addresses allowed to access the Front Office even if shop is disabled. Use coma to separate them (e.g., 42.24.4.2,127.0.0.1,99.98.97.96)

You can also use .htaccess to restrict users from accessing that directory with exceptions for your IP address.

Thank you for fast answering :-)

I blocked some IP's with my .htaccess on my existing site root.
QUESTION :
My IP is dynamic, won't it be a problem ?

Sorry if the question sounds stupid to you. I am not very confortable with .htaccess/ IP tools :-S
I have a recent knowledge in CMS ( Wordpress only -customized design from framework -).
I feel sometimes deorientated with PS ...

Cheers,

IT'S OKAY !!!!
all solved. Indeed that was simple :-)
Thank you,
Cheers,
How can I make this topic solved ?

Well, for starters, how is it that you are able to map the DNS to a dynamic IP? If it requires any work by you, it's too much work.
Also, usually, the DB activity and bandwidth for a e-commerce store is too much for small hosts.
Security, that headache can come from any host, you need to research them fairly well before choosing.

Ok.
I partially get your explanation:
"how is it that you are able to map the DNS to a dynamic IP? If it requires any work by you, it’s too much work."

I am definitely a big newbie in e-commerce stores. Learning hour after hour I must admit.
My first e-shop has only 2 articles for now and will have 30/40 at max in the coming months...According to what you say, I will probably bump into bandwith problems...But as my buiness will hopefully grow, I will have to consider all this.

As for the off-line shop maintenance, I momentously change the IP in the BOffice. Bit odd for me , but it works.
So far, so good.
I will observe efficiency as progression of the shop goes on.

If you have time, can you just explain me what you mean by
how is it that you are able to map the DNS to a dynamic IP? If it requires any work by you, it’s too much work.

Otherwise, thank you for your help :-)

What I meant by that is that DNS works by "mapping" a domain name to an IP address. If you have a dynamic IP, meaning that the IP address to your server always changes, how is anyone going to reach your shop using a domain name, like www.myshop.com?

It is ludicrous to even think about trying to host a website with a dynamic IP, especially one that you hope to be driving traffic to.

THANK YOU !!
My site exists now for 3 years and I run 2 blogs that do very well.
SEO is also good. ( can always be better, but I am working weekly on it ).
I am gonna investigate on what you said here because That really "shakes" my curiosity.
Your answers were super useful...
Cheers,
note : topic is "solved " :)
