[Solved] Cannot import combinations by productid need product.name option.

Recommended Posts

I have about 300 products and each has about 30 attributes/combinations.

When I import the product database I select to delete the existing products. It automatically auto-increments a new productid for each imported product.

I then try to import by product attributes/combinations and I don't have the new productid(s) for each product that was just imported so I am unable to connect my product attributes/combinations to the correct product.

My product csv contains the product name field and so does my attributes csv. But the combinations import feature in the administration does not have a field for product name so it can correctly identify which attribute goes with which product.

I verified that this was the problem by first importing the product data, going to the catalog, looking up a specific product and noting it's newly assigned product id number. I went back into the attributes csv file and did a search and replace on the product name field and switched it to the product id. I then imported the attributes file and identified the product name field as product id and that specific product received the 30 or so attributes correctly.

Without the product name field as an option in the combinations import fails.

I could create a new field for both my product csv file and attributes csv file and force a predefined product id during import however I end up with a horrible mess with the attribute texture images. With previously uploaded texture images using the texture upload feature in the attributes section in the administration it assigns a new filename to the texture image that becomes disconnected from the product attributes on future imports. I found I have to delete them so they don't become connected to the wrong products attributes list from a different attribute group.

There should be an option in both the import features and catalog administration features so that when one deletes products or attributes to delete associated image files as well. Otherwise they will have to be deleted manually. This becomes a huge problem when making large changes to the products in the catalog.

Thank you for your tireless efforts in improving Prestashop.

I decided to just export the prodid field into my csv files for both the product tables and combination/attributes tables. When I imported the new csv files it worked fine.
