rlwelch4646
never [in response to the post above]pray that you find someone kind enough to assist you one-on-one.I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix my image upload problem and I'm on day 10 or so. Please tell me how something so vital as uploading a product image can be broken.I really don't understand it and am waiting for some type of solution. What PS really needs is a community manager who will scour these forums and tackle the bugs that are troubling people... especially ones such as this, which cripple the development process. rlwelch4646
You are the first person to respond, that's why you don't see more fleshed out posts tomerg. I've had to go begging people through pm's to try and get help because frankly... well we've had this discussion in another forum topic haven't we.I'll be more than happy to send you or your colleague a PM with my issue more detailed. tomerg3
Do not use PM, as others cannot see it, if someone else has an idea, or someone else needs the solution, they will not see it.Either post it here, or in one of the other threads you created. rlwelch4646
Do you honestly know how many dead end forum topics I've seen in my search for answers to my issue. People begging for help with no response? The first post I made today was in response to just that.A person 20 days after his last response basically saying, "hello? anyone there?" Yet my issue would be resolved and his wouldn't? What makes my issue any different than anyone elses? Is it just that I've gotten your attention that you're now questioning my posting history. Spare me tomerg. The guy I responded to in this forum topic is just one of many people. I've sent an e-mail and bug request to PS, I've posted on other forum topics and I've been working with 2 people through PM. I'll remind you I've only been using PS for a week now but thank you for questioning my integrity. It has nothing to do with the lack of customer support... not at all.I love our conversation branching across different forum topics though. rlwelch4646
Thanks for your help. Here are the answers to your questions:1) What version of PS are you using?- 1.4.0.172) Was it a clean install, or an upgrade?- clean install3) Are you using a windows or linux server, which host?- a host in the czech republic / I'm unsure which it is to be honest but if you need to know I'll find out4) Did you make any changes to PS?- no changes except for Czech language as default / and change to config.inc.php (see below)5) What is the exact error you are getting?- I'm not getting any error messages and yes I did change my config.inc.php file to display errors / I get an "Update successful" message6) Does it happen with any size image?- happens with any images as small as 2kb up to as large as 40kb / also tried .jpg and .pngTo reiterate, the category (and subcategory) images upload just fine but the product images are not uploading. I don't know if it's the path or what it may be.Thank you for any help you can provide me and anyone else in a similar situation.
tomerg3
Is the folder permissions for /img/p (products) the same as /img/c (categories)?Do you see any files int /img/p/? if so, how many?Do you see any values populated in the database table ps_image? if so, how many? rlwelch4646
Thanks for your quick response. Is the folder permissions for /img/p (products) the same as /img/c (categories)? Yup both the same / I know it's not a permission issue as their are cs (Czech language) files that were added after installationDo you see any files int /img/p/? if so, how many? It's full of image files that came default from PS and the czech language image filesDo you see any values populated in the database table ps_image? if so, how many? 23 total with various "id_image" values (starts at 18 and jumps around)Does any of this help? Could it be the coding itself?
tomerg3
This is not likely related to coding as it works for pretty much everyone else, and I have yet to hear of these symptomsI suspect it has something to do with your host, or the installation (trying to do the same thing on local host using WAMP will tell us for sure)What are the id_product value in ps_image, are they higher than 10? if so, it means that the image upload was doing something, otherwise it's likely to not even start because of some issue. rlwelch4646
The highest value is 9.Let me ask you, do you know what issue there would be with my host if I'm able to upload category photos but not product photos? Is there a certain instance where this would happen? Same thing with the installation, could something have happened that would cause one to work and not the other? tomerg3
No, I don't this is very strange, as I never heard of these issues before (and I deal with many many different customers). The only other thing that I would do is add debugging code throughout the file upload functions and see where things break down. Now excuse my ineptitude with coding but what is the process of adding debugging code? I understand you have more to do than help me tomerg3 so if it's easier, is their a good resource online that details this process?Despite our differences yesterday I really do appreciate your help. I feel you're like that cable tv representative on the other side of the phone and my cable has been out for a week and I'm missing a lot of damn good television. You don't control the system but you're a representative and because you're on the "front lines" you take a lot of the shots. I hope something good comes of this, not just for me, but that PS sees that our frustration is valid and there is amazing potential for a perfect [spam-filter] between PS and the small business owner/developer. It just takes work and I'm hoping they see that.Regardless, thank you again for your help.
tomerg3
I'm not aware of any online resources regarding this.Did you try to post it on the bug tracker, the PS team is pretty good with dealing with bugs that get reported, they may ask you for server login info if they cannot reproduce the issue. Like I said yesterday, I've tried to communicate to PS in a variety of ways and yes, one of them was by submitting a bug request. That's partly why I was upset... I have no idea if they even viewed it. They don't communicate properly tomerg3, you have to know this.I saw the page where the myriad of bug requests are located and I know it's a daunting task for them to tackle but they have to figure out a better way of managing the process. This is where my frustrations are partly stemming from. One, they shouldn't have released the product as is... it's a beta product. This seems their MO though from hearing from other users, but should it be going forward? Two, they have to have a better communication system to help quell some of the frustrations. Depending on you to moderate frustrations is not effective. Taking nothing away from you but it's not your job to fix our problems or manage our questions. Who's job is it though? I have not heard from one member of the PrestaShop team saying they are working on this problem or that problem. Day by day goes by and I and countless others are losing time and money. All I hear from others is hire an experienced coder and pay him a good deal of money for years and years to come to keep my shop open. That's just not feasible for a lot of business owners and that's who PS is trying to target with their product but they are failing miserably. I want autonomy and PrestaShop is claiming to provide that for business owners such as myself but they aren't providing that. But I'm sticking with it because in the end I'm hoping this powerful tool will work it's kinks out and work really well. It's just frustrating to know this could have been avoided and been even more profitable for both sides if things were handled differently on PS's side. That being said, it hasn't even been viewed so I feel I could've written a 5 page-long manifesto on my problem and it wouldn't have made a difference. But there it is, sitting amongst the other hundreds of bug requests. Bruno Leveque
Dear Raymond, Dear Jasmine,I really apologize for this delayed answer, I sent an e-mail to both of you, requesting additional server information to help to fix your issues as fast as possible. We would like to address this bug #1562 before the release of PrestaShop 1.4.2 (within the next few days).Regards,
jasmine
Hello Bruno,I am pleased that you acknowledged this post.Yesterday, I implemented #PSCFI-1707 using the SVN changeset. Since then, I can upload png files as well. So technically, I have no errors while I upload png files. However, the file type is converted to jpeg. Therefore, all transparent files lose their transparency after the upload. I have a website for cosmetics and the transparency is very important for attribute (color) textures i.e. for the color swatch.Hence, this auto converting of files must be stopped in PS 1.4.2. To help you further, here are the details that could help:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1) What version of PS are you using? PS 1.4.1 along with a few SVN files to fix crutial bugs2) Was it a clean install, or an upgrade? A good upgrade from 1.3x, to 1.4.0.17, later to 1.4.1 within a week. These needed a thorough preparation of files.3) Are you using a windows or linux server, which host? Hosting company - inMotion Operating system - Linux, MySQL version 5.0.[spam-filter]community, Apache version 2.2.17, PHP version 5.2.164) Did you make any changes to PS? Yes, lots. Mostly to theme templates and functions. Also added new modules but all according to PS standards. Did not change critical PS global js/php functions.5) What is the exact error you are getting? No error after bugfix PSCFI-1707, but files are auto-converted to jpeg format. This is disastrous.6) Does it happen with any size image? Not sure, haven't tried the upper limitShould you need any further assistance, let me know.Cheers!
