Limitations on Product Combinations Generator

I need 4 pieces of information to produce a kilt for a customer, Waist, Seat, Length and Tartan choice. Because of the limitations of the product generator, approx 5000 combinations, when I input just Waist, Seat and Length my site freezes up and individual product cannot be accessed because some 18K plus combinations are generated.

My question is this: can different boxes be created in PS to allow a customer to type in their own measurement/choice without going through the combinations generator?

I am aware of the attributes wizard module and I will buy that in due course once I have figured out how it will look and how to use it but in the short term I need to get my site live.

Any help would be appreciated

You can use the custom text fields to allow customers input their own measurement/choices. And this feature can be used simultaneously with the drop-down product attributes.

I have been playing about with your suggestions and it is going to do the job for me until I figure out how to use the Attributes Wizard module, anybody out there have any simplified instructions on its use?
