Modifying the add product page to support custom features

Hi guys this being my first post im not quite sure if this is the right place for such a thread.

I shall start from the top i am modifying the add product page to support a product finder.

I am trying to modify the add product page to have a family and series drop down selector thats works the same as the manufactuer drop down selecter.

I understand how to physically create the dropdown menu and how i would go about coding it however i am having problems locating the file and lines where the mysql insert query takes place to add the new product.

If anyone could point me in the direction on the add product mysql insert query i would greatly appreciate it
