Redirect to Canonical URL 301 or 302 - No impact on .htaccess regardless BO setup

There is no changes in .htacces file located in the root folder of the Prestashop 1.6.1.20 regardless I set up 301 or 302 redirection in
BO admin -> Preferences -> "SEO & URLs"

Telling the truth there is no such a string inside .htaccesss file like "[R=301]" or "[R=302]"

Is it correct or not?
Where does Prestashop set up REDIRECTION 301 or 302?
Is it .htacces file or somewhere else?
