Attributes and Values problem

I am working on my new store and have added some attributes but they will not show when I select combinations ie I already had sizes 14", 18" and 20" and I have added 16", 20" and 24" but they are not showing for selection. I have also amended some colour names and changed to drop down list but the colours are still showing in combinations and the new names haven't updated. I have cleared cache and reindexed what else can I try??

I was rebuilding the site in 1.7 as I am unable to upgrade from 1.6 and really don't know what else to try
