Help!!! Getting 404 error after editing the PS directory

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I accidentally edited the PS Directory in the Preferences tab. I put /.htaccess and now I cant change it back to what it was before which was "/". I get a 404 error and I dont know how to fix it.
Please note that I installed Presta shop though my webhost. It was very easy and I didnt really have to do any other thing aside from clicking install and filling basic info about my shop. Can someone tell me how to fix it? I saw some related posts saying that I have to change something in the /config/settings.inc.php file but I dont know where to find this. Can someone explain how to do this step by step? Thanks in advance.

Here's the error I get:
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Hi Rosemarie,

I'm afraid I can't help you, but I am having a similar problem. I had my installation in a temporary folder on my web server and have now moved it to the root directory in order to "go live." Unfortunately, the login function for the admin area no longer works, so I cannot edit the field that specifies the Prestashop directory. I have been searching through the configuration files, but so far without luck. Hopefully someone can help us...

Strike that Rosemarie, I figured it out! You need to edit the "settings.inc.php" file, which is in your "config" folder. On the first line you should have an instruction that defines "__PS_BASE_URI__" - you need to change this to "/" from whatever you've got at the moment. Good luck! :)
