Domain name repeated in URL

Sorry if this has been asked before, I have looked but couldn't find anything about it.

Checking for broken links, I noticed that some urls were incorrect, they contained the domain name twice.

i.e. http://www.myshop.com/www.myshop.com/blah/blah

I've even found one that google lists with the domain name repeated 4 times.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going wrong?

I have the same problem on PS 1.3.2.3. I have a hunch it happens when bots such as facebook bot are trying to look at shop page for images, when is someone sharing link. But I have no idea how it happens and how to avoid that. Anyone know what could be problem?

Regenerating the .htaccess file seemed to fix it.
