Setting up Categories in more than one language

Hi, does anyone know of a straightforward way to create a set of Categories in more than one language, for example using the Import feature?

If not, then it seems to me there are 2 alternative methods:

1) Import one set of categories for one language, then one-by-one manually create the alternative language records.

2) Sort out all the data (following all table relationships) offline in a spreadsheet, create appropriate load scripts, then load each table separately via sql.
