Problem Viewing in Internet Explorer 8

Recommended Posts

I previously had this topic as "Drop Down Box" as I did not know what was causing my problem but I now feel it more appropriate to retitle it to the above. The problem, obviously from the previous title, is how the drop down box shows names, I have attached a jpeg with two screenshots showing the problem.

I have also copied my last post under "Drop Down Box" so hopefully it will make sense to someone.

"Anyone come across this before, got a suggestion from my webmaker who was looking at my problem on a Mac and could not see what my problem was.

If you look at the screenshot you will see an example of IE8 and Firefox browser, in Firefox everything shows OK complete names but in IE8 it is only showing a portion of the names.

The problem is obviously with IE8 but is there a fix??"

I would be grateful for any input to resolve this problem.

Bumpety Bump!!

I would be grateful for any help on this subject, positive or negative.

This name box is very crucial to my business ie. Kilt Making, as a customer has to make a choice of tartan names before an order can be placed.

Are there any other known problems about using Internet Explorer as a browser?

Bumpety Bump Please!!

I have had 66 views of this post and 222 views of my "Drop Down Box" post and no comments so far , negative or positive.

I would be very grateful for any assistance here, I cannot go live without being able to view this name box properly in Internet Explorer.

Have now had 206 views to this post and 291 to my "Drop Down Box" post and still have had no response at all to my problem.

On checking my BO and software browsers used by viewers it show that almost 60% of viewers are using IE 6, 7 and 8 with 48% of viewers using IE8.

Has anyone ever come across this problem before?

I would be grateful for any response to this, positive or negative at least I will know someone is aware of it.

Many thanks

ChrisLNZ,
Many thanks for your response, as a non technical person I need things to be made quite simple for me. I can handle things in the BO but not in the programm.

What is a "padding issue"? I have let my site go live and the address is www.amhamiltonhandmadekilts.co.uk ,is this enough for you to look at or is it somewhere in the BO I should be looking?

Hi Late here in NZ will have a look at this isssue tomorrow, but you need to be aware that your site is extremely slow to load - several minutes for me - not helped by the way you have your youtube video set to load and play :)

Nice site when it did load!

Give your customers the option - don't force it on them :) Also consider 'shrinking' your images in the carousel they are all much larger than you really need.

Hi Have had a look and I think the issue is with with IE's odd behaviour - will need a IE specific class added to the css for that section - will have a play around with it afterwork and see if I can come up with a solution.

ChrisLNZ,
Many thanks for looking, hopefully you will come up with a simple solution.

I Googled " "padding and IE and CSS" and came up with lots of suggestion's most of which I wouldn't know how to fix but have hopes that it can be done by someone in the know. At least now after all this time there is a reason for the difference between browsers, I had almost given up hope that no one would give an answer.

I agree with your comment on the YouTube clip, we had noticed a drop in loading here but not as much as you seemed to have and we were going to take it out and just put a link in. I will look to what I can use to fill the gap productively and get it out soon.

Many thanks for your comments.

Hi Chris,

The code link is just the standard in PS Back Office, it only shows the 11 or so charachters from the YouTube site.

I have just deleted the link meanwhile until I can check further on your suggestion about leaving a button link in. What a difference it has made to the site right away.

many thanks

Jimbo

Microsoft have updated their browser to IE9 and guess what, my drop down boxes now work the way they should do, so come on everybody update your browser and you will be able to view my site properly.

I don't know if I should mark this solved yet as there will still be people who will not use the new browser for some time yet.

I'm glad that I did not mark this as solved as I have had other issues with IE9 now.

I have two sites running and after updating to IE9 I was unable to edit the description box in Catalog on my other site, when I reverted back to IE8 the problem was solved., so I still have my "Drop Down Box" problem.

My other problem is listed under "Editing Product Description Problems", I don't know if this can be classed as the same problem as it is two separate problems on different sites with relation to IE 8 and 9.

Any comments or suggestion's would be gratefully received.
