How to make Gift warpping box open and checked by defult .

hello in checkout process , how we can make the Gift Wrap option checked by default and its box appears by default ?

another question please , how i can return the chosen value form a drop down list if there is an error on the forum ?
i mean if you tried to use this link :
please add a product to cart first : http://localhost/haddaya/express-order.php

and you didn't fill all the fields , the country field return -
it should return the same value you chosen before submitting it .
