Dave Egerton
I followed the steps in the wike http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Getting_Started/Used those update instructions, but because I renamed my live directory to mytheme_old and then recreated /mytheme as a new folder and uploaded my files into that, I then reset the file permissions on the new folders - as explained with a new install, follwoing the rest of the instaructions and everything worked without a hitch.Oh, and once installed, i renamed the admin folder back to what I changed changed it to previously, and copied my themes directory back into themes

spott
My recommendation - and how I see the PrestaShop installer also works.1) Make backup of all your files2) Make backup of your database3) Turn off all custom modules what You are installed and also I am recommending to switch to default theme4) Download latest PrestaShop to your computer and unzip it5) Rename your admin folder back to admin6) Upload all new files to your store - rewrite all files7) Check file premissions8) Start again the installer (yourprestashop.com/install)9) Chose upgrade method and fallow instructions (two or three easy steps)10) Delete install folder11) Rename again admin folder
