[work around] Version 1.4 - Validating Multiple Postal / Zip Code Formats

I found that version 1.4 now has a method to validate proper input for Postal / Zip codes based on the settings in the options offered in the BO under Shipping, Countries, then select the country.

I was wondering if it were possible to validate two formats for a single country. The US has two acceptable formats:

NNNNN = The normal 5 digit zip code

NNNNN-NNNN = zip plus 4 code

Is there a way to validate against either one so an entry in either format is considered valid?

Now that I've upgraded to 1.4.2.5 the same question exists. How can I validate two acceptable Postal / Zip code formats?

There is a work around with manual edits for the AddressController.php and modification to the ps_country table. Look at a related posting at this link.
