Images lost their 'source' files and do not display

Hi there,

A client of mine has been using PS for a while now and was using v.1.1.x for some time.

They reported an issue of pictures not displaying in the BO when they'd uploaded them. However, on changing the image size of the product pictures to slightly larger (called up by product-list.tpl) and using the image regeneration, I was presented with a 500 error.

Having run a server and had these problems before as a result of using suPHP and various other standard security restrctions on the server, I could fix this by runnign CHMOD and CHOWN commnands in root, to make sure everything belonged to the right user and the file had the most liberal permissions available (755 for directores and 644 for files). This didn't fix the problem.

Then ,as a result of the crashed thumbnail regeneration, the entire catalgoue of product pictures disappeared completely from the live shop.

We then brought the version up to 1.3.6 but this did not affect the 500 error or the image disappearances from FO when running image regeneration.

At this point, we've no idea what is going on and why the system has lost reference to the product image files.

Any ideas/fixes would be much appreciated, and if anyone fels qualified to fix it for us, the client is prepared to pay.
