BendingBetty
Under PS features:Unlimited attributes groups (sizes, colors…)Unlimited combinations (red, green, S, M, L…)Unlimited products combinations (red t-shirt, size XL)A lot of us know that this isn't true. If you try load more than a few attributes the database crashes and the combinations tab won't load. Why not be honest with people before they download your shop and spend a few weeks uploading all their products only to find they can't use attributes?Either let us know PrestaShop sucks when it comes to attributes or fix the problem. And stop the "it takes time to fix something so big" excuse. A user here has fixed the problem, but the module costs a lot of money. I'm sure if one guy on his own can code a fix, a group of developers, who wrote the actual code, can fix it quickly.Apart from the attributes, PrestaShop is the best commerce option around, I love the way it is so easy to add pfoducts and the overall look of the site. The only reason I am complaining so vehemently is because I want this fixed so I can continue to use PrestaShop. Every other commerce option I tried, if there was something I didn't like I moved, but PrestaShop is just so good, I really want you guys to fix it. Paul C
Out of interest how many do you use for products? If there are lots, then you must have a huge inventory to manage!Paul
BendingBetty
Hi there,I do have a huge inventory. I sell computer hardware and want to give the user the option to "build their own pc" which means I need attributes for CPU, GPU etc etc. It is a huge list.Every other commerce option can handle it though, but I don't want to use another option, I want to use PrestaShop. Paul C
Ah that explains it I was wondering, as most products you would have to try very hard to create lots and lots of choices (or alternatively you could likely structure the products in such a way as you don't have to!). A custom PC is a different matter when using every component as a selectable attribute; I can see that this would be fairly large. In saying that I don't think that using "attributes" to build your custom PC is ideal either, since I'm guessing you have to manage the same items twice - once as a regular product and also as an attribute? It would be better if you could assign particular products as "custom PC options" so you could manage the stock/availability etc. at a single point.Interesting challenge Paul
BendingBetty
Is there no way to stop PS from creating a few thousand products for every available combination and instead adding each attribute as a stand alone product?
thehandlestudio
Take a look at this module, I'm sure it will handle what you are looking for http://www.presto-changeo.com/attribute-modules/34-attribute-wizard-pro.htmlRegards,Mark.
BendingBetty
Why should I have to buy that module when all other commerce options have it free?
thehandlestudio
I was only poniting out that there is a module you can use for what you are after, We would all like it for free but I'm afraid this isn't the case. Regards,Mark
Paul C
BendingBetty,I understand where you're coming from, but the principle that Prestashop is coming from is that you sell an item which has X attributes that create Y specific products when combined - what you're trying to do is use something intended for size/colour type variations etc. for another purpose altogether, which is building a product that's made up of multiple sub-products.I think what you need is a layer of functionality that allows a customer to select products from your store in a guided way in order to create a basket of products that when combined form a complete system. None of the carts that I've worked with support that functionality, although you can fool some by bending the principle of attributes to seem to work in that way.Paul
