Hide cover image on product page

Hi,

I would like to hide the cover image on product page, the cover image it's a shape with the product inside so it doesn't look good as the first photo on product page, instead I would like it to load another photo.

I've found some threads here on how to do this but it's from a long time ago and I'm not sure it would work with 1.7.
