Issue with Image sizes and different multishop themes

Hey folks,

we have the following problem. We are currently using a 1.6 installation and are running multiple multishops with different templates. Problem is, that the image sizes are not "multishop ready" so we change imagesizes for all multishops if we make a change. After googleing i found this thread:  wich is marked as solved why i opened this thread. The solution there seems to be creating new image sizes and change the templates where you want to use other sizes. Since this was a few years ago has anyone come up with an other solution or idea? For us this isn´t really a viable solution due to the amount of multishops.
