Customers are unable to open uploaded Microsoft Word .doc file - File Conversion

I would like to sell customized Microsoft Word documents here: http://legaleagleforms.com/

I am able to upload the file from my computer just fine, but when I purchase the form, then click "open" Microsoft Word is not able to open it properly. A box pops up that says "File Conversion" and asks me to "Select the encoding that makes your document readable."

I made sure that I had saved the document properly as a .doc file. I have tried this on several different computers and even tried naming the file something different. This doesn't happen when I try to open a .txt file. It happens when I click on the link in my "ORDER HISTORY" page, and when I click on the link that has been emailed to me as the customer called Virtual Products Download.

I would really appreciate any help with this. I am getting really frustrated.
