Live HTML editor

Recommended Posts

I don't know how to handle templates in FrontPage. I use Netbeans instead. I mean, a non visual editor. So, do you want to edit templates in visual mode? That tricky because the files are separated, and by example header.tpl opens

tags that header.tpl closes.

Am use to seeing live visual ... hence the need to use alternative editor. I know I can FTP the files into Expression or Dreamwever , edit them and post them back .... but am not sure how to set this up and would prefer the ability to update without FTP.

I don't think i'm catching your idea, but of course you may use a local version of prestashop (so you can test stuff in a localhost and not when people is navigating). But you'll need that, a localhost like WAMP. Do you have one?

Uploading with dreamweaber or any other problem has no issues. Just look at the proper docs. And sometimes it's also ok to open the remote files with the ftp client, edit it in your IDE/text editor (any of them) and saving them directly to the server.

Apologies for sounding vague. What I would like to do is edit all the necessary files with a live preview. For example, with Dreamweaver you can edit a file and switch to preview before saving the file so that you can see the changes.

Well, look "Smarty + Dreamweaber" in google. The templates here are smarty ones.

I don't work that way. I have a local "copy" of the prestashop web and i change css with my IDE and see the result in a navigator. But i'm a coder, not a designer.

It's not really practical because of all the separate template components, modules and dynamically generated content. What you could do is to save the source of the different pages and visually edit them (and the associated css files) to work on the layout, but once you'd finished you'd need to translate markup changes back into the smarty template files.

Of course, if you're happy with the markup and only want to edit the css, then using the source of generated pages should work just fine for you.

I haven;t found a wysiwyg editor I've been happy with though, so tend to just use a text editor for it all, and a browser to preview....

That's what i suggest to my designer. ;o)

I myself prefer to work on the CSS and leave alone the html if possible. But sometimes i change the modules' html also. Using notepad++ or any other IDE.

Visual mode... should be substituted by the navigators i think.
