select featured products instead of creating them in the root

As far as i understand, the featured products module need some products listed in the main category. But what if i just want to select some products from other existing categories to be displayed in a module? And what about having this module out of the index page? Is there another module to achieve this? Thanks in advance.

You can select products in other categories, just add them to the home category as well. As for the rest I don't know sorry.

Cool. Thanks. So, there's a tree to select multiple categories for each product.

When you view a product in the Back Office, there should be a list of all categories and you can put a check in the categories that you wish the product to be listed in.
