1 click upgrade and Prestashop 1.7.4.1

1st is I am using 1.6.0.14 and go to modules, when I click on install I get the following error:  [PrestaShop] Fatal error in module file :/home4/dvinyard/sinfulpleasures.net/modules/autoupgrade/autoupgrade.php:
syntax error, unexpected T_STRING

PHP version is 5.6.30  and

Server information Linux #1 SMP Thu Feb 8 23:35:45 MST 2018 x86_64

Server software version Apache

PHP version 5.2.17

Memory limit 256M

Max execution time 30

 

2nd is if I download ANY new version of Prestashop and FTP the 2 files to a test site, then go to the test site so index can unzip files I get the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home4/dvinyard/public_html/2idiotstest.com/index.php on line 51

I just need help to make something work.

First of all you need to make sure your server comply with these, https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/884856-best-server-settings-for-prestashop-17-tested-in-production/ and forget about PHP5.6+, switch to PHP7.1
