Flat rate shipping by category.

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to add a flat rate shiping fee by category. So lets say there are categories A B C and D if they buy from A B or C there is a $5 charge added to the shipping rates but only one time so if they buy one product from A and one from B the total added cahrge is $5

I have not found a solution in the shipping module - what I have done as a work around until PS get a grip on the big shipping weakness.
I have added product called shipping with fixed price and added it into every catagory with a reminder that it must be selected before completeing checkout - otherwise the order will not be accepted.

Take a look here for my solution - it is not very elegant but is the best I can find

The site is still underconstruction!

It is a shame such a great peice of software is missing things here and there that would take it from great to amazing. I'm gonna start rooting around in the code to see if I can make some changes. I know a bit of php and it would require modifying core files which I try to avoid but I would imagine I could add a simple if statement to the shipping calculations. If category is 1 2 3 or 4 add x amount to total shipping. Hopefully it really is that easy, I will let you know if I can figure it out.

I agree, to me the achillies heel of prestashop is the shipping module, so much of the flexibility that other open source seems to have is missing. I understand that version 1.4 is only tuning what is already there. The development team seem to be avoiding grasping the nettle for shipping.
Big shame.
Let me know how you get on with your coding experiments- I am very much a user not a developer, I have no coding knowledge, Good luck.
