tutorial93
Good day, everyone! I want create e-shop and it seems like prestashop fits all of my needs. Still I have doubts about SEO features. Prestashop CMS has very low SEO ratings https://i.imgur.com/9RKr0bD.png (statistics take from https://ecommerce-platforms.com/compare/best-ecommerce-platform-seo) Could anyone comment about the current state of SEO feature? Thank you!
ksaan
Hello, The link you give here is from 2014 (EDIT: I am not sure ... see below) 4 years is very long in the software world, so I think now this ranking has changed a lot. I dont know how I am not a SEO expert but I think you should try to get some more recent studies EDIT: it is strange, on your link the article shows 3 different dates: - August 2018 - November 10, 2014 - August 3, 2018 Edited August 6, 2018 by ksaan (see edit history)
tutorial93
Thank you for reply. Don't know the real date of the article. It might be outdated. Maybe someone has more experience towards prestashop SEO?
ksaan
Only thing I know is there are dozens of modules to manage/improve SEO on prestashop: see https://addons.prestashop.com/en/search?search_query=SEO
tutorial93
Thanks for the link. Very useful! Hope the most of SEO features shouldn't take long time to configure without plugins.
pedepot
Prestashop comes with most of the features a retail website requires. However they can be just impossible to use unless you buy additional Prestashop SEO Modules. They can be cheap (https://codecanyon.net/item/prestashop-seo-manager/4662419 ) or expensive (https://addons.prestashop.com/fr/seo-referencement-naturel/16939-seo-expert.html ) for the same features. Just like in real life, you would need to search for the most affordable products to improve your shop's SEO. Prestashop Addict
For SEO , Prestashop has all you need, rewriting url, meta title and meta description, 301 redirections. So if you want to have good positions in SERP, the only thing you should be focused on, is content content and content quality :-)
tutorial93
Yes. It's true, the quality is in the service and product. Thanks for the comment!
pedepot
True, I have seen so many shops with poor content! What makes the difference is content, content, and ads, ads, ads, ads,,,, Most of the time, items on Amazon are poorly described. However, Amazon has a leadership in many domains because they invest massively in ads....
Guest
It is, but @pedepot sums it up quite well...
pedepot
By the way, waiting for a sitemap module for PS 1.7! with each combination having its own url, it is getting crazy!
Guest
You can still use the 1.6 moudle
ksaan
Euh ... I know few about SEO but I was told by someone who said he was SEO expert that sitemaps are now useless because Google does not use them anymore. He said Google prefers to "build his own sitemap" of your website (since their tools are a lot more powerful and accurate) rather than using the one you provide. Anyone heard about this ? Guest
That is just nonsense. Sitemaps are the only clean way for a search engine to discover all pages at once. it might ignore errors in the sitemap, but it certainly puts weight to the file. RamboRich
Just my 2 cents but I think 1.6 is better as far as built in SEO than 1.7. I can be wrong, but having websites built on both, it seems the 1.6 ones are fairing much better in search. However, my sites built in 1.6 are about a year and half older than 1.7.4 ones. There's some funky stuff going on with combinations in the URL that may be affecting my 1.7 sites. Most namely the # tag at the end of the html URL with products that contain combinations. 1.6 doesn't show the # (product-combination) at the end of the URL when first loading the page. PS 1.7 wants to show the default combination with the #(product-combination) when first loading the page in the URL. Seems to make a difference. Trying to find a solution.
