What is or what file/folder is $HOOK refering to.

I am struggling to find the files or what {$HOOK} is referring to and where do I find the files relaiting to "HOOK".

As I am basicly trying to alter the footer contents (have looked in module footer) within the footer.

It's a placeholder for modules to add code. You should edit modules/blockvariouslinks/blockvariouslinks.tpl to modify the footer.
