BeComWeb
Howdy community Our new module is now available on AddOns marketplace. It allows you to create a backup of your shop's database and to send the file to your given e-mail address. In association with a scheduled cron task (or cron job), you will strongly minimized the risk of data loss in case of crash, hack or improper manipulation. You may create for instance an automatic nightly backup. Screenshots and detailed presentation can be found at this address. Feel free to contact us if you have any question. PS : backup automation needs the set up of a cron task. This system is available on any decent dedicated server and VPS and for a bunch of shared hostings (as per current OVH plans). In doubt you shall contact your hosting provider or search for "cron job" + hosting company name on the search engine of your choice.
Ableson
If anyone is having problem with cron job settings, using online cron job like easycron.com as an alternative is a good idea.
BeComWeb
Thanks for your precision @Ableson. In deed using an external cron service when you don't use a VPS / dedicated server or where you are on a shared hosting and your provider doesn't offer a cron feature is a good alternative. Just keep in mind that some some of those free services restict the cron execution time (as per easycron that limit cron execution to 5 seconds on their free plan, which will probably be too low for a backup database). All of this is mentionned in the module documentation.
