Product images gets scaled down.... :o...please help

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have installed a new template from template monster on my prestashop 1.3.3 version. All work except for one thing:

I have huge image problem - when you click on category most images are shown normally but when you click a product and go to the product page the image is SCALED DOWN so my product images are even smaller than the category images.

BUT IT IS ONLY ON SOME....many seem to be working fine however the most of them get scaled down in the thickbox....

HOW DO I MAKE MY IMAGES TO SHOW PERFECTLY NORMAL AND WHAT COULD THE PROBLEM BE?

I have done all possible things such as:

overwrite the images and update image thumbnails constantly...NOTHING changes! then i changed image sizes but still same problem.....i have done this several times as guided in many forums but now i need specialist assistance...if any know please share.

Kind regards

Frustrated PS image man :)

After several frustrating days of dealing with this and similar problems on the store I am developing, I have found a way to deal with this idiosyncrocy, although I am hoping the developers will fix this so that a 900x900 image, for example, uploads as a 900x900 image and displays as a 900x900 image.

Here is how I deal with the image size: I have thickbox set to 900x900. In my image editing program, I start with originals that are 72dpi resolution and that are larger than 900x900 to begin with. (A few products had to be enlarged to 900x900, but of course they were not as crisp.) Next, I crop that 900x900 image on the vertical dimension so it is now something like 900x870 or thereabouts. (PS won't display the image if I upload a 900x900 and thickbox is set to 900x900 max. Dunno why.) Now when I upload it, it displays much larger in thickbox than in the product page, although it still does not display the full 900x900, but at this point I can live with that.

Now some observations:

- PS does not display the image as 900x900. If I right-click the image in thickbox and view properties, it states the image size as, "900px × 900px (scaled to 691px × 691px)" a reduction of about 77%.

- The screen resolution setting on your monitor affects the "scaled-as" dimensions. For example, my monitor is set to 1280 x 1024. Thickbox scales the image to 691 x 691. If I change the monitor resolution to 800 x 600, thickbox scales the image to 267. If I change monitor resolution to 1280 x 960, thickbox scales the image to 627 x 627, and so on and so forth. That means, if I describe a problem with the size of the picture in thickbox, another person may not see the same problem.

- If I upload a smaller image, say 600 x 600, thickbox still says dimensions are 900 x 900 (scaled to 691px x 691 px). That is a 77% reduction. I believe it creates a white cell to center the image in, then scales the cell AND the image together down to 691 x 691, When that embedded 600 x 600 image is scaled to 77%, it now effectively displays as 462 x 462. So if someone is uploading even smaller images than 600 x 600, you can see how thickbox would easily display them at or below the size of the large product page picture.

- I changed the thickbox setting to 1050 x 1050 and refreshed the thumbnails. Nearly all of my product images disappeared. I changed it back to 900 x 900 and they returned to normal. Hmm...

- Does anyone really know why thickbox scales images anyway?!?

I know this doesn't solve the problems, but it may give someone some direction of where to begin with a solution. At the very least, it may enable someone to get their site live until a better fix is developed.
