Hi Andy

I have a re-seller account with hostgator and all my stores run fine with them, just upload and away you go... i'm based in the UK but hostgator is in the usa... not sure if you were looking for a UK host...

Just looked at hostgator and you seem to get alot for your money.
For a new start up, not much traffic, would you suggest the "baby" package. Not too sure on ssl certs and dedicvated ip etc etc. Would I need these?

If you think again..they have put unlimited space & bandwidth for a reason... This is basically overselling . All are market gimmick. Will you get that much space in the end?

Other than the hosting spec, you should look beyond that. Things like server uptime and technical support are quite important. I am pleased with my host and so far so good. Excellent uptime. I would say the support staffs are very responsive. Knowledage in script like prestashop. If i run into any problem, i always get good response from the helpdesk.

If you need Secure access for your shop eg. https://www.yourstore.com, then you will need a SSL cert + a dedicated IP.
One of my shops had SSL & dedicated ip and everything is working fine.

Andy

i have been with hostgator for over a year and no probs at all, just do a search around other forums/search google and make your own mind up i can only give you my opinon.

i started off with baby and then moved onto a reseller as i needed static ips for my sites so i can use ssl on each of them.

Roly is right you need to look at other things apart from the unlimited stuff, but i belive hostagtor servers are in a major datacentre out there.

another company i have been told are good are bluehost but never used them...

if you go with hostgator let me know and i think i have a 20% off voucher some where.....

Forgot

you only need a static ip if you want an ssl cert and normaly you only want an ssl cert if you are going to take credit card payments ect direct through your site, if your going to use paypal then you don't really need one as paypal is secure....

some say if you have a ssl anyway it builds customer confidence in your site but that is open to debait...

i would say it give a sense of security when customer shop at your site. :) For important data like creditcard info, i would suggest get a reputable payment companies like paypal to handle it... you would not want to get sue if your shop get hack and have all the creditcard get stolen...

I just moved a website to hoosierwebdesigners.com because my merchant account provider was hounding me for PCI compliance. Their servers are 100% PCI compliant and the customer service has been top notch all the way! I will be moving 3 more sites to them over the next few weeks and will see how that goes.
