[SOLVED] Prestashop 1.4 Official Release date?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have done some digging to try and find out if there is a release date for the final version of Prestashop 1.4 but so far come up empty handed. Is there a date which 1.4 is expected to be finalised?

The reason I ask is because I am excited about some of the new features, namely the guest checkout and one page checkout feature. I am currently building a store for a client who I know will want those features and would like to hold out if possible until 1.4 is ready for production, but this will depend on the date.

Failing that, will the upgrade path from 1.3 to 1.4 be straight forward? If so, I may just go ahead and release to 1.3 and then upgrade at a later date.

Many thanks,

Tas

There is no official PrestaShop release date. PrestaShop doesn't provide one. They will release it once they've fixed all the important bugs in the bug tracker. My guess is that it will be released by the end of January, but there are no guarantees.

Upgrading PrestaShop v1.3 to PrestaShop v1.4 should be easy, though the PrestaShop v1.4 theme is completely different to the PrestaShop v1.3, so upgrading your theme will be difficult. Without upgrading your theme, you can't use the new one-page checkout and guest checkout.

The theme will still work, but you won't be able to use the new features and you'll have to use the Smarty 2 option instead of the improved Smarty 3 option.

I think PrestaShop v1.4 is close to being released. I expect it to be released by the end of March, but it's impossible to know for sure. I keep getting surprised by more RCs with new features.

That's what I thought too. I thought Release Candidates were supposed to be feature-complete and candidates for release unless a bug is found, but the PrestaShop team have surprised me by adding new features, which means more testing is required before it can be released. I do like some of the new features added though. I like the new drag-and-drop positioning of modules between the left and right columns. It's much more intuitive than transplanting modules.
