how do I fix this?

You should log in to your Back Office using http://www.example.com instead of http://example.com, then go to the Google Sitemap module's configuration page and regenerate the sitemap. It should then use www.

Thanks Rocky seemed to work a treat.

Stupid website I have set up a re direct so it should redirect http:// to http://www.
