Custom Featured TAB

I want to use a TAB at front of the site ( the one beside New Products..Featured etc. ) to show categories of my choice instead of  the products right away. I have too many featured products so have them separated into the subcategories which are not assigned in drop down top menu.

So It should show the small img. with name of the category on which customer clicks and can see the products in that category.  (Same as customer access to categories and subcategories via main drop down menu.)

So Im looking for an advice how to do it or link to the module which can do it.
