Help with my Website as it's gone offline after chaning Name Servers... but need help please

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i have a problem with my website going down so im going to explain as i can, hoping to include everything etc.

I bought my domain with 123-reg and hosting is with Hostgator.

I then purchased an email box through 123-reg so now i have an email address being sales@(myemailaddress).co.uk
I released this wasnt working as emails wasnt being sent to it and emailed the 123-reg support who told me i had to change my name servers.
The problem with the email box was that it wasnt able to send or receive emails properly as i tried sending emails from a googlemail and hotmail account to it with only a FAILURE message received.
They were origionally:

ns2172.hostgator.com
ns2171.hostgator.com

And was told to change them too:

ns.123-reg.co.uk
ns2.123-reg.co.uk

It said it would take 24-48 hours to sort out.

I then tried the email box and CHU CHING, it works!

Although i tried to go onto my website with no luck at all . Just goes to one of those search engine things :/

www.protectandenhance.co.uk is it so feel free to have a look.

Now the question is, what do i do?

Should i wait 24/48 hours and see if the website comes back online?

on 123-reg, i remember as well as the 1st and 2nd name server, there was a 3 and 4 so maybe paste the old one in there?

I'm hoping some of you will be able to help me out with your expertise and all so please help as soon as possible.

Many thanks and kind regards to all!

Ryan

Ryan,

You just "killed" your website in order to fix your customized email. The longer you will wait, the longer will take that the nameservers to synchronize again with your correct data, which in your case is ns*.hostgator.com. Now you have two possibilities:

a.) Change again the nameservers to hostgator and in 24-48 hours your site will work again. Create an email account with your domain and setup a redirection to whatever external domain you would like to. This will allow you to get any emails sent on your domain in another account, but in order to preserve the company email address when you reply, you will need to login into the hostgator email account.

b.) Less professional and may not work if you have SSL certificate installed: When you signed up with hostgator, you have received an email telling you how you can access your site in the absence of the properly nameservers. Try that link and see if your site works properly and if you accept it, go to 123-reg and setup a web redirection to the tested link.

If you have additional questions, ask me.

Success!
