Backed up DB = Crash / Tried to upgrade = Crash : Now stuck

Hello

Since I was down , I decided to go for the upgrade to the Beta version.
I followed the instructions, (backed up the directories to my PC) but the install doesn't work either:
Using firefox - it just hanged

Now what ?
all ideas are welcome at that point

EDIT:
the site is kind of back...I changed the define('_DB_NAME_', 'MYDATABASELIVEHERE') in the settings.inc.php
But none of the products are showing and when I got to the back office and update a product I get:
1 error
an error occurred while updating object product

Also - I can NOT upgrade to Beta 3
Any help - still very well appreciated - ;-) you know, getting me back to V1 or Beta 3
