Change customer 'States' to Text Box

This is s big problem for me because my customers can't enter their full address:

Mr Fred Bloggs
10 The Lane
West Meadowfield
Townsville
Bigsmallshire
BG12 7XP

I need a city and a state for this address.

Some customer addresses really need even more fields, but I'll manage with what I've got here.

Problem is I ship all over the world, so to make a states list for every country I ship to would take the rest of eternity and I can't go live until I resolve this!

Any help on how to convert the customer states field to a text box would be very, very much appreciated!!

it is easy to change drop down list to text box (Even this, it will involve changes in multiple places),
but the problem is that PrestaShop save "state" by ID not name, in order make this change, a lot more coding are required.

If you are using Paypal, I have one possible solution for you. Use my module Agile Paypal express checkout. Let customer to use express checkout, in this way, customer does not need to input any address information. After payment is done, the module will create customer's account at your store with info from Paypal. The module will also create state automatically in your database.
