mza1979m
I'm using PrestaShop v1.7.3.1, and I have never been able to add new categories successfully. I'm quite sure I'm doing it correctly. When I add them, they do show up on the back end and everything seems to be ok until I preview my shop. They don't display at all on the website. All options are checked under "Group access" and "Displayed" is enabled. I am creating the categories under "Home". I only have 2 functional categories on the site that were there from the demo that I renamed, which do appear on the website. If I try to move the category to another category, it functions as expected on the website as a sub-category. If I try typing in the long URL to the category directly in the browser window, I can navigate to the category. This certainly seems like a bug. NemoPS
Did you add them to the top menu, or did you clear the cache for the category block?
mza1979m
I went to "Catalog -> Categories" and on this screen I clicked the blue "+" sign that says "Add new category" at the top. I filled out all the relevant information, ensuring "Displayed" is set to "Yes" and "Group access" is checked for everyone, clicked "Save", then tested the site. The new category does not display at the top as expected. Regarding clearing the cache for the category block, could you please tell me how to do that? I tried googling it and followed a set of instructions on how to clear the PrestaShop cache. I went to my file manager in cPanel, found the PrestaShop directory, but there was no sub-directory called Smarty or Cache or anything like that. The only folders within the PrestaShop folder was "plugins" and "sysplugins". I did a search for "Smarty" and found one located as follows: /url.ca/cache/smarty. However there were no files within it or within "Cache" except "index.php".
NemoPS
The new category is not expected to display if you just add it. You need to add it to the top menu block Or whatever top menu module your theme uses. For the cache, it's advanced parameters/performance
