Google Analytics Configuration

I've read on the forum about Google Analytic but I still don't understand some of it.

I did set up a Google analytic account and found out where to edit what follows below.

Do I need to set up any of the steps below.

The first step of tracking e-commerce transactions is to enable e-commerce reporting for your website's profile.
To enable e-Commerce reporting, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to your account
2. Click Edit next to the profile you'd like to enable
3. On the Profile Settings page, click edit next to Main Website Profile Information
4. Change the e-Commerce Website radio button from No to Yes

To set up your goals, enter Goal Information:

One thing I don't understand is to set up the goals. What goals to I set up? What's a goal to reach?
