replacing database images

Recommended Posts

the JPG conversion on the images is a bit heavy through the prestashop back office making images quite blurry/grainy.

Most of the time I've been able to get around this by FTPing the relevant image in place.

However, for category images, whilst I'm able to upload and replace these, within a few hours they replace themselves with the original image.

I'm guessing the database is storing the original version too and over-writing it.

Does anyone know how to replace the database images directly? (I'm not very technical!)

Thanks
Andrew

What version of Prestashop are you refering to ? Right now I am working with v1.1b2 and not for the life I can get a category image uploaded to the img/c directory. As far as I have understood it I don't think there are any image references inside the database, every image is copied and renamed from your original name to a prestashop specific name tied to the ID of the category/product/supllier/manufacturer etc.
So to change images directly I think you will have to find the ID of the category/product/etc. and rename the images accordingly to something like 2-category.jpg for ie. the category with ID 2. Products are more difficult as they seem to have at least two numbers with default names like home, large, medium etc.
It did work with v1.0.0.8 though the gif-files I have were converted to jpg.
