How do I use PrestaShop and my own customized template?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking in to starting my own online shop and very new to everything. So after I buy a domain and hosting, I have to start a store front. And to do ecommerce I need a Shopping Cart and PrestaShop looks great. So once I download it, does it come with a template/design for the website? And what about if I want a different design like from Dreamweaver or any other design, how do I use PrestaShop with it?

Can someone please list a step-by-step instruction of what needs to be done?

Thanks!

I don't know if any one has the time to post a step by step of how to set up your online shop. But if you first start with the WIKI tab - this will help get you started. Prestashop has many themes and also many programmers have made suitable templates (Free and paid) so you should find what you are looking for. My advice is try to keep it as simple as possible. Do a search, find the template you like and then modify it a little to get it how you want it, rather than trying to build your own template from scratch (unless you are very adept at design and also coding for prestashop). All the methods and means of modifying your website to get it up and running are available through WIKI and by searching on the forum. Pretty much all the questions you may have have been answered at some point.

And in my humble opinion, having first looked into OSCommerce and various others, Prestashop is the most user friendly for sure, even if some features can be improved. But this is the same everywhere.

So your first step? Get to WIKI and look at how to get started and follow this up with some searches in the forum.

Yes, I also cannot find this fundamental 'step 1' informtation! Where is the access to the template? Not only can I not see any way to modify the template, but I cannot even find the entry point! This is really fundamental. Where does one access the template?

I also cannot see any kind of 'add page' function. How does one add pages? This is also super fundamental, yet not visible in the Admin area.

I cannot imagine how to use this product. Where does one begin?

This is really irresponsible to ignore us New users. We, several new people, simply need the most fundamental information to get started (which requires just a simple series of instructions from a "pro"). Why isn't anyone listening? Because English is not their first language??

I have just started a blog called "negotiating the internet for beginners" (ak.a. supportshouts, and will start by pointing out that Prestashop is not your friend if you need good support to get started. Visit the blog now and let's see if Prestashop pros will finally hear us: http://supportshouts.wordpress.com/
