1.7 webfonts super slow to download

Hi

I am a happy PS user but on v1.5 and now I am looking at updating to 1.7. I have a test installation using the classic 1.7 theme and when running it on webpagetest.org I noticed that there are a couple of files with woff2 extension that loads very slow. They are also quite big. In the 1.6 installation I am comparing with there is only 1 font-awesome file which is fairly small while for 1.7 there are 4 files summing up to almost 500kb. Are these really necessary?
