Shopping Cart Broken

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have not been working on my shop for about a month and yesterday I noticed that the Add to cart button is not working any more. There is no way I can add products to the Cart. Since I have changed nothing myself, I assume it must be a problem with the hosts server. When I click the Add button, you see the animation, but the cart always remains empty. I have tried different PC's/browsers, no luck. I have made a new installation on another host account and that one is working perfectly.

Does anyone know what can cause this problem?

If I can't fix this then I will need to rebuild the site from scratch, probably on another hosting account. Is it possible to migrate the full site to another host?

I hope someone can help.

Thanks all!

Good luck getting help...

You seem very angry. I'm sorry if I did something wrong and upset you. I honestly didn't mean to.

I have already searched the forum for similar problems and found a few unanswered threads which were for the same problem. I'm assuming that anyone with experience might be able to, from experience, remember what the most common causes of this problem might be.

If I asked for the URL to see the problem, it's for a reason....

If your description was enough to go by, I would give you an answer, but it's not (at least not for me), and since you don't wish to share the link, then there's nothing else I can do, other then wish you good luck.

Yea, your description is pretty vague. As a coder there is a million things it could be and we can not tell without looking at it. Often times it is not so obvious at all.

OK fair enough... www.capeverdestuff.com

After the update the default template css was restored I still need to fix it (please note the problem was there before I did the update).

Thanks.

Direct url to add items doesnt work. Does not look like a theme issue at all, did you modify any code?

Nope. I only modified the CSS and the Images files so that it had a blue background. But it was working perfectly after that. Whatever happened seems to have happened by itself, thats why I thought it was a hosting problem.

I have tried your site. I think the only way is to make a clean install (database and all) and redo you changes and test meanwhile. Hopefully you find the place where you made the adjustments that messed it up. Afterall its rar that things happens by them selves. Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to help. Luckily this was just a demo shop I created for my clients to see. Unfortunately I can't recommend something to my clients to which something like this can happen, as I would see myself as being liable to fix it. If fixing it means completely reinstalling the script and doing everything again from scratch, thats a nightmare scenario for both me and my client.

Hopefully someone will have a solution for me which is not a worst case scenario. I have backups, maybe they will be useful.

Maybe the guy who demanded that I post a link will actually help. Judging by the attitude of the other replies I'm not hopeful.

Many thanks to you and the others who actually tried to help instead of talking to me like a dog.

Prestashop is a great tool in many aspects and its free and with that in mind, not to mention that there are heaps of online shops built on PS that works as a charm aslo I have installed several shops both online and in mamp without any problems and i have a shop almost ready for release. I will be hard to you and say that most likely the cart problem is made by your own editing;)

About the attitude my believe is that this forum is very good. People are very skillful, nice, helping as much as they can and have time to. Many things does not demands a link to solve and some do. I think it was a great idea to ask for a link to help you cus there are many pro´s here that just check the source code and can see what is where the problem is right away - without the code we are all fumbling in the dark - and don´t forget the purpose was to help you.

Anyway if you keep up with PS you will notice this on you own and your "hope" will change. Good luck and thanks for the thanks.

I agree with everything you said. Although I was a little surprised at the attitude of the earlier replier, that could be my own perception I suppose (I'm man enough to admit that). As a British person who has worked in customer service in my early days, I have some, shall we say, expectations when it comes to how people communicate in this type of situation.
But I have lived outside of the UK for many years now... and I'm starting to get used to a lower standard of customer service. Fair enough - that's just the way it is. And yes, I appreciate that the script is free and that people are trying to "help", but still, being respectful to someone costs nothing also I'm sure you'll agree.
I'm reminded of a funny sign that was in my local take-away when I was a kid: "As we're a new shop we promise to be friendly and courteous to all our new customers. Once business is good, we'll put a stop to all that!"

Anyway, as I said before, I really didn't change the code, I only only the CSS and image files. Do you think that could have caused the problem?

I guess you have a mishap with something in the upgrade/ installation.
Therefore, since there are not so many products in the demo i would reinstall/ upgrade and redo the whole thing.

Follow the wiki http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Installing_And_Updating_PrestaShop_Software/

Thats the only help i can give. Good Luck!

I really appreciate your help. If you ever need someone to test something for you, let me know! :)

I had the problem before I upgraded, I upgraded to try to solve the problem. I have also made a fresh installation just to see if the problem was the server, but the test install is working perfectly.

I took a look at your website and I think the error is connected to variable "product" from blockcart-json.tpl.
which is empty so "jsonData" take default values or are empty.

I couldn't trace where problem starts but you should try to re-upload block car module and also check if all other files are uploaded correctly.

I've been too busy to try to fix the problem in my shop. But I came back to it this evening and thought I would give it another try.

I did already try your suggestion, but it didn't change anything. So I tried this instead:

1. install a new prestashop in a subdirectory
2. test the new install - it worked perfectly!
3. change the database so the new install connects to the old database
4. test the shop - it worked!
5. test the ADD TO CART - still does not work...

This means the problem is not caused by any of the files, instead it is caused by a problem in the database. If anyone sees a logical flaw in my troubleshooting technique please let me know :)

Important: I have not made any changes to the original database. Not one.

Does anyone have any idea how this problem can be solved, or how it may have happened?

Thanks again everyone! :)

Did you find any solution to this?
I have the same problem... :(

Nope, I still have the problem. I would try to fix it but I have been too busy working on other things. When I do have time, I will probably install a different script. Support here is not great. Although I really do appreciate those who actually did try to help. A big thank you to them.

Did your problem also happen all by itself?
